As part of our studio complex, we are fortunate that our beautiful Georgian house and warehouses are fronted by a large courtyard space. We believe this outdoor area should serve both our studio members and be a part of our public program.

Led by Elisa Nader, a member of the WIP Space team, the garden will host small workshops for the local community. WIP Space will offer social, cultural, and educational workshops for everyone to participate in.

In addition to workshops, the garden will be a place for relaxation and creativity. Our members can take breaks and find inspiration here, while the public can use it to participate in community activities, learn new skills, and meet others.

We are committed to making this space accessible and inclusive, ensuring everyone feels welcome. By fostering a sense of community and encouraging collaboration, we aim to create a supportive environment that benefits both our studio members and the wider public.

History

As with the building, the garden was in need of serious attention after many years of neglect and fly-tipping. With the help of some brilliant volunteers, the space was cleared and made ready for Elisa Nader, who leads the gardening program at WIP Space.

We have carefully choosen edibles, plants for teas, perennials, fruit trees, pollinators and ornamentals for our west-facing suntrap. The planters are handmade and finished in the Shou Sugi Ban technique.

Thanks to the generous donations received, we will be able to run free propagation and seed saving workshops, among others, in a programme of skill shares and events centred around community, ecology and the arts.
