About WIP Space Residency

Overview

WIP Space offers a unique, free residency for creative practitioners across all disciplines, including:

  • Art

  • Design

  • Literature

  • Architecture

  • Performance

  • Creative Technology

Residents receive free studio space and become part of a vibrant, supportive community, allowing them to focus on their work without financial constraints.

Residency Expectations & Support

Residents contribute to our public programme by hosting:

  • An Exhibition (£500 funding provided)

  • A Workshop (£250 fee provided)

We also offer mentoring, publicity, and installation support to help bring your projects to life.

Residency Dates

We offer two residencies each year. For this round we are looking for:

2025 Spring to Winter Residency

  • Studio access: 18 June – 11 December

  • Exhibition install: 30 October – 5 November

  • Exhibition open: 6 November – 11 December

  • Deinstall & move-out: 11–16 December

What You Get

  • Free 24/7 studio access for approx six months in a creative hub

  • Studio space: 82 sq. ft. (7.69 sq. m)

  • Exhibition space: Approx. 215 sq. ft. (20 sq. m)

  • No rent or studio fees (saving approx. £1,080)

  • Free WiFi, heating, and utilities

  • Access to a meeting room

  • Regular social events (drinks, potlucks, exhibitions at Steam Works Gallery)

  • 1-hour weekly mentoring if requested

Requirements

  • No application fee

  • Residents must arrange their own accommodation

  • Four weeks’ notice required for exhibitions, workshops, or events

  • A Peppercorn Licence Agreement must be signed for free studio use

  1. Brief outline of your practice (100 words approx)

  2. How would this residency benefit your practice? (100 words approx)

  3. Where are you based?

  4. Exhibition concept (200 words approx)

  5. Workshop proposal (200 words approx)

  6. Do you need mentoring or support? (funding, workshops, exhibitions, events)

  7. Five images, links, or attachments showcasing your work

  8. A link to your website or Instagram
